Environmental Audit Committee (EAC)- Plastic bottles: Turning Back the Plastic Tide

Yesterday the The EAC released their report and proposals for dealing with the increased use and collection of Plastic Bottles in the UK.

The report in short recommends the following to be Regulated under New or Improved Regulations
- UK Government to introduce a Deposit Returns Scheme for PET Drinks bottles and consider roll out to other drinks packaging materials. Deposit could be between 10p -20p.
- Premises Serving Food and Drink should provide free tap water, encouraging and promoting the use of re-fillable bottles
- Erect Public water fountains
- A ban on disposable plastic bottles in public buildings, replaced by water fountains for re-fillable bottles
- Packaging Regulations to be amended to stimulate and reward use of recyled content in packaging. Obligation Threshold to be reduced from businesses turning over £5m to £1million
- PRN Revenue to become more transparent with details of actions taken
