The European / UK Packaging Waste Directive
The European Packaging Waste Directive (a producer responsibility directive) has, since 1997, made producers of packaging responsible for the recovery and recycling of their packaging waste.
It places legal obligations on organisations that turnover in excess of £2 million and handle in excess of 50 tonnes of packaging.
The Environment Agency and SEPA actively target and prosecute organisations ignoring their obligations and can impose very significant fines (latest fine £279,000 +legal costs)
The Co2 Compliance team has been helping companies, large and small, to comply with their obligations while keeping a tight control of the costs. The legislation can be complex but Co2 Compliance can guide you through every step, including the UK’s unique, market based, Packaging Waste Recovery Note (PRN) system.
