2021 / 22 UK Packaging Recycling Targets Confirmed
DEFRA has now announced the increased UK Business Packaging Waste Recycling Targets for 2021 and 2022.
Whilst different from the 2019 Consultatiion, its worth noting some challenging target increases and there is no longer a Recovery Target from 2021. The Wood Packaging Recycling Target has been droppped substantially inline with the latest EU Packaging Waste Directive.

Glass packaging recycling targets have been reduced from the proposed 84% in 2021 and 87% in 2022 to 81% and 82% respectively.
Plastic packaging recycling targets have been cut from a proposed 61% in 2021 and 65% in 2022, to 59% and 61% in the confirmed targets. The remelt Target has an increase of 5%.
There have also been reductions in the steel targets —from a proposed 88% in 2021 and 90% in 2022 to 86% and 88%.
Paper, wood and aluminium were unchanged from the proposed targets.
