CRC – Carbon Reduction Commitment abolished – 2016 Budget

George Osborne yesterday announced a series of changes to Producer Responsibility Regulations which will be welcomed by business in the UK.

1. Plastic Packaging Recycling target confirmed at 49%, reduced by 3% from original target with a 2% annual increase until 2020
2. Glass Packaging Recycling target flat at 77% with a 1% annual increase through to 80%.
3. Carbon Reduction Commitment is to be abolished with the revenue lost from CRC being replaced by an increase in the Climate Change levy.
4.  The Levy Control Framework was not mentioned on mandatory carbon reporting, nor was the Paris Climate Change Deal.
