DEFRA Publishes Producer Responsibility Consultation Summary Responses – Packaging
DEFRA this morning published the Summary Responses to the recent Producer Responsibility Consultation.
Click for the full report.
In Summary the proposed Actions –
- The Plastic packaging recycling target will now be reviewed for future years, hopefully down and over a longer period. This follows a recent WRAP Plastic Flow project which identified an over estimate (320k tonnes) of Plastic Packaging placed on the UK market. Plastic PRN prices have reached around £60.00/tn on recent months. Full Report
- Annual Packaging Weights Data Submissions may no longer require a Director sign off, as long as the Director has delegated the sign off procedure.
- Annual Operational Plans will no longer be required by Compliance Schemes or Producers, this seems to include the Procurement Template detailing planned purchases of PRNs ( Packaging Waste Recovery Notes) are to be made throughout the year.
- Scheme Approval will now NOT be made by DEFRA and will now be made by the Local Enforcement Agency (EA, SEPA & NIEA).
Please note the above is subject to final approval and confirmation.
