DEFRA Issue Packaging Recycling Target 2018 – 2020 Consultation

Packaging-e1427111645760

Today, 30th November, DEFRA have issued a Consultation on the UKs Packaging Recycling Targets from 2018 – 2020. Targets are already in place for Glass and Plastic for this period and the consultation seeks views on future targets for Paper, Aluminium, Steel, Wood, Recovery and General Recycling.

The Government has asked for opinions on the 3 options laid out below with responses to be made to DEFRA no later than the 6th of January 2017. Please click link for copy of the full consultation document below packaging-targets-consultation-doc-2016-final

Co2 Compliance will be submitting a response to DEFRA, so please feel free to call and discuss.

Option 1 – Would leave Flat Targets at 2017 levels

Option 2 – Would see increases in all materials between 2% & 5% per year

Options 3 – Would see increases in all materials between 1% & 3% per year

So a huge difference between the 3 options and likely cost of compliance between options 1 & 2.
